The Charity Shop

Our Charity Shop is a unique shopping experience in Cork city where you can browse high quality items at great value while meeting our members, parents and volunteers. We supply high quality homeware, books, games, DVDs and a selection of clothes, jewellery and accessories. All products come from donations. Our shop is led by parents and volunteers and offers a vital training and employment programme for young adults with Down Syndrome. The funds raised in the shop support the running of the shop as well as the paid employment programme.

Our Training and Employment programme provides paid work experience to young adults with Down Syndrome while training in retail skills, professional conduct in the workplace, dealing with customers and operating with money. The goal to provide real and transferable skills to support our adults to secure valuable employment in the workplace.

We have a Shop Manager and an Employment Support Specialist but our Charity Shop couldn’t survive without the team of 20 volunteers who give their time so generously.  If you are interested in volunteering in our shop, please contact us by email on shop@downsyndromecork.ie.  All volunteers are garda vetted and will be required to support our members on the employment training programme.

If you would like to donate to the Charity Shop, we accept good quality homeware, jewellery and accessories, a selection of good quality clothes, books, games, arts and crafts and DVDs. All items must be in good condition for re-sale. You can find us upstairs in Merchants Quay Cork, on Facebook under Charity Shop – Down Syndrome Cork or by email at shop@downsyndromecork.ie.

We were very proud finalists at the Lord Mayor’s Civic, Culture & Community & Voluntary Awards 2023.
